France international Lucas Digne has completed his return to Paris Saint-Germain after leaving Aston Villa to join the reigning European champions.
The 33-year-old left-back has agreed to a three-year contract with PSG and will now return to the Parc des Princes after spending the past eight years playing in England. The French club activated the £8.5m release clause included in his Aston Villa contract.
Digne previously spent three seasons with Paris Saint-Germain earlier in his career before moving on in 2016. His return marks the latest chapter in a career that has included spells with Lille, Roma, Barcelona, Everton and Aston Villa.
“I am very honoured to be returning to Paris Saint-Germain following the wonderful experience I had here more than 10 years ago,” Digne said.
“I am particularly impressed by how the club has developed over the years.”
The experienced defender is expected to provide competition for PSG’s established first-choice left-back, Nuno Mendes, as the French side look to maintain their dominance at both domestic and European level.
Digne arrives at a PSG team that has won the Champions League in successive seasons. Their most recent triumph came in the 2026 final, when they defeated Arsenal on penalties.
During his first spell in Paris, Digne made 30 appearances before leaving the club for Barcelona. His return comes after a successful period in England, where he established himself as a regular Premier League defender.
Digne joined Aston Villa from Everton in 2022 and played an important role in the club’s Europa League-winning campaign last season. The trophy represented Villa’s first major piece of silverware since 1996.
His departure is another significant change at Villa Park ahead of the new season. Digne is the third senior player to leave the club, following Morgan Rogers’ move to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans’ transfer to Manchester United.
