Ipswich host Liverpool on the opening weekend of the Premier League

Ipswich Town, making a return to the top flight after a 22-year absence, kick off their season on Saturday, August 17th against Liverpool, while Manchester City, defending champions, start at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on Sunday, August 18th, reports Football Scores Today.

Manchester United will open the campaign at Old Trafford on Friday, August 16th against Fulham. Arsenal, last season’s runners-up, will face Wolves at home on Saturday, along with Aston Villa playing away against West Ham. Southampton, winners of the Championship play-offs, will play Newcastle at St James’ Park, Everton will host Brighton, and Nottingham Forest will take on Bournemouth to complete Saturday’s fixtures.

On Sunday, Brentford welcomes Crystal Palace, and Leicester City, winners of the Championship, will host Tottenham on Monday, August 19th.

Ipswich’s last Premier League match was a 5-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield in the 2001-02 season. They were relegated the following year after finishing an unexpected fifth.

Manchester City secured a historic fourth consecutive league title by finishing two points ahead of Arsenal in May.

Key details for the upcoming season include Manchester City having two out of seven pre-Champions League matches at home, and Aston Villa facing five out of seven post-Champions League matches away. The longest trip, on December 26th, is 200 miles from Aston Villa to Newcastle. There will be a full round of fixtures on the weekend of the FA Cup final, with no games scheduled on May 17th.

The Premier League 2024-25 season will commence on August 16th and conclude on May 25th, 2025. It will consist of 33 weekends, with four midweek rounds and one Bank Holiday round on December 26th. There is no separate round planned for January 1st.

International breaks are scheduled for September, October, November, and March, while the FA Cup third round has been moved to the second weekend of January. This season will not feature a winter break, and the Christmas Eve fixture played last season will not be repeated. Clubs are assured they will not play twice within less than 60 hours during the Christmas and New Year period.
