Cristiano Ronaldo Teases Al-Nassr Exit with Cryptic Post – What’s Next for the Football Icon?
Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted at his possible departure from Al-Nassr with a mysterious message on social media, reports Football Scores Today.
The 40-year-old superstar, who signed with the Saudi Arabian side in January 2023, sees his contract expire next month.
Ronaldo netted the opening goal—his 800th in club football—as Al-Nassr closed their season with a 3-2 loss to Al-Fateh, finishing third in the Saudi Pro League.
Following the match, Ronaldo posted on X: “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.”
So, what lies ahead for the Manchester United legend? Could he still feature in next month’s Club World Cup?
Talks Around Club World Cup Participation
FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently hinted at the possibility of Ronaldo playing in the Club World Cup, despite Al-Nassr not qualifying for it.
“Ronaldo might play for one of the teams as well at the Club World Cup,” Infantino said in an interview with YouTuber IShowSpeed.
“There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup… who knows?”
The upcoming Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States, marks a new chapter for FIFA too—being the first to use the expanded 32-team format and held during the summer.
Despite the buzz, many tickets remain unsold, including for the tournament opener featuring Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami against Egyptian giants Al-Ahly.
Who Could Ronaldo Join?
Only a handful of clubs globally can afford Ronaldo’s massive salary.
When he joined Al-Nassr, he became the highest-paid footballer in history, reportedly earning £177 million per year.
Still, Ronaldo may consider a short-term contract with a Club World Cup team before deciding on his next steps.
Spanish outlet Marca recently reported that a Brazilian team has made an offer for the Portuguese forward.
Botafogo, one of Brazil’s four Club World Cup representatives, has been linked with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
When asked about the rumour, Botafogo manager Renato Paiva replied: “Christmas is only in December. But if he came, you can’t say no to a star like that.
“I don’t know anything – I’m just answering the question. However, as I said, coaches always strive for the best. Ronaldo, even at his advanced age, remains a goal-scoring machine. In a team that creates chance after chance, he would be good.”
FIFA Rule Change Opens the Door
Although the summer transfer window in England officially runs from 16 June to 1 September, FIFA has approved a special 10-day window for Club World Cup teams to register players, from June 1 to June 10.
This temporary window allows tournament participants to bolster their squads for the competition.
When Does the Club World Cup Begin?
The expanded tournament kicks off on 15 June and will be hosted across 12 stadiums in the U.S.
A total of 63 matches will be played, with the final taking place at the iconic MetLife Stadium on 13 July.
