Devaney Joins Hibs as Manchester Utd Agree Loan Deal

Manchester United youngster Jacob Devaney is set to continue his development in the Scottish Premiership after joining Hibernian on loan. The Edinburgh club have also secured an option to make the transfer permanent.

The 19-year-old midfielder spent the first half of last season captaining Manchester United’s Premier League 2 side before moving to St Mirren. During his spell with the Paisley club, Devaney made 18 appearances, scoring once and registering one assist.

Primarily operating as a deep-lying playmaker, the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has already gained valuable experience of senior football in Scotland.

Devaney also featured for Manchester United during their July pre-season fixtures against Wrexham and Rosenborg. He found the net in the match against Rosenborg, further highlighting his ability to contribute from midfield.

Hibernian head coach David Gray believes the youngster has the technical qualities and attitude required to make further progress at Easter Road.

The move gives Devaney another opportunity to play regular senior football while continuing his development away from Old Trafford.

Hibs Win Race for Devaney

Hibernian sporting director Malky Mackay revealed that there was considerable interest from other clubs in signing Devaney.

His previous experience in the Scottish Premiership was an important advantage, as the midfielder already understands the intensity and demands of the competition.

Hibs will be hoping Devaney can quickly settle into the squad and provide another technically capable option in the middle of the pitch.

For the Manchester United academy graduate, the loan represents an important stage in his career as he looks to gain more first-team experience and continue developing his game.

Hibernian Also Agree Swan Transfer

Hibernian have also reached an agreement to bring in United States youth international Colton Swan, although the forward will not move to Scotland until December.

The 19-year-old currently plays for Charleston Battery and will remain with the club until the conclusion of the 2026 USL Championship season.

Swan has impressed in the second tier of American football this campaign, scoring 11 goals and providing three assists.

His eventual arrival will give Hibernian another promising young attacking option, while Devaney’s immediate addition strengthens their midfield.

With two young talents joining the club at different stages of the season, Hibs are continuing to build for the future while giving emerging players an opportunity to develop in a competitive first-team environment.
